Kenyan golf star Njoroge Kibugu put in an impressive performance to finish six under par at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open at the Karen Country Golf Club on Sunday.

Despite the weather interruptions, Kibugu finished the final day in style, dropping five birdies in the DP World Tour.

Kibugu captured the attention of the nation on Friday when he became the first Kenyan since his brother Mutahi Kibugu in 2023 to make the cut.
With only the 18th hole left, Kibugu sat on 3 under par, yet the projected cut-off was 4 under par.
At the par-18 hole, the 22-year-old sank an eagle putt, much to the delight of the mammoth home crowd, to make the cut. He was the only Kenyan to make it to the final two days of the competition.
Saturday wasn’t as inspiring for Kibugu as he picked five bogeys in what was an extremely tough outing. He birdied the 18th hole to finish with 1 under par heading to the final round.
Kibugu sinks five birdies on final day at MKO 2026
On Sunday, he came back rejuvenated, sinking four birdies in his front nine (10-18) before adding another birdie on the 1st hole to rise to six under par. Play was suspended when he was on the fourth hole due to rainfall and the threat of lightning.
When play eventually resumed, Kibugu, followed throughout the course by an ecstatic home crowd, hit perfect pars to finish the four-day tournament with six under par (280).
Magical Kenya Open prize money
The 2026 Magical Kenya Open had a total prize kitty of $2,700,000 (KSh 348 million), which will be distributed depending on where a player finishes.
The winner will get $467,500 (KSh 60.1 million) while the second-placed finisher will get $302,500 (KSh 38.9 million), with the solo third place getting $172,150 (KSh 22.1 million).

Kibugu’s six under par had him at T61 in the highly competitive field.
Golf News Net reports that 61st place walks away with $7,700 (KSh 990,000) but doesn’t explain how the multiple ties are awarded.

Additionally, Ruto, who graced the final hours of the event and subsequent award ceremony, awarded the Windsor Gold Club-based golfer KSh 5 million.
ABSA added him a further KSh 2 million. In total, KIbugu will get almost KSh 8 million.
Who won 2026 Magical Kenya Open?
South African Carsey Jarvis dominated the field to win with a new record of 25 under par. Jarvis sank two eagles and six birdies on the final day to break the record of 21 under set by Justin Harding when he won the tournament in 2021.
Davis Bryant pushed him all the way but had to settle for second, while Hennie Du Plessis bagged an eagle on the 18th to finish in the top three.
