In a statement issued by management, it was confirmed that a day guard stationed in Phase Two accessed the swimming pool without authorisation.

A male adult cleaner who was attending to duties at the gym noticed the unfolding emergency and rushed to help. However, he too lacked swimming skills and tragically drowned while attempting the rescue.
Witnesses recall moments of confusion and fear as neighbours rushed to the poolside, with heartbreaking videos showing residents frantically trying to resuscitate the victims.
Some attempted cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), while others called for emergency assistance. Despite their efforts, the two adults could not be revived.
Sunpark estate management’s response
The cleaner’s instinctive attempt to save a colleague has particularly struck an emotional chord within the Syokimau community.
In response, management has directed the operators of Fitness Fort to close the swimming pool indefinitely until all safety regulations and measures are fully implemented and independently verified to ensure the safety of users.
Residents have been urged to strictly avoid the swimming pool until further communication is issued. The incident has left many expressing grief over the loss of two workers who reported to work alive and healthy.

Grade 6 girl drowns in Syokimau
The incident comes barely six months after a Grade 6 pupil at Syokimau Blessed Assurance Academy in Syokimau drowned in a school swimming pool.
Jael Nabalayo lost her life during a swimming gala at Blessed Assurance Junior School on Thursday, September 11, 2025, leaving her parents devastated.
CCTV footage from the school management captured the final moments of the 11-year-old when the lifeguard on duty saw her body lying in the swimming pool during his routine check.
