It was an eventful day for the United Opposition as Fred Matiang’i received a significant political endorsement from the Gusii region as he was formally crowned as the community’s spokesperson and kingpin during high-profile rallies.
The event drew massive crowds and featured key opposition figures, including former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, and George Natembeya.
Held prominently at Ekerenyo Grounds in Nyamira, the ceremony saw Gusii elders and religious leaders install Matiang’i symbolically, handing him traditional items like a stick to signify his role as the Abagusii people’s official voice.
The rallies spanned Bomet, Nyamira and Kisii, aiming to solidify support in a region long aligned with the late Raila Odinga and ODM.
Video of United Opposition accident
Footage captured from one of the locations depicted several Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles in an entourage.
The clip was captured at a lush location on a road lined with lush trees on one side.
On the other side was a lush tea plantation.
The vehicles joined the meandering road from a junction, as some of the security detail members hung onto the outside.
The area was sparsely populated, and a few people, including boda boda operators, gathered around to try to get a glimpse of the politicians.
Suddenly, one of the SUVs rammed the vehicle in front, an accidentcausing the motorcade to come to a halt.
The driver of another Prado, carrying the public address system, was seemingly not paying attention and hit the second vehicle.
