The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have arrested three suspects in the Coast region amid efforts to dismantle criminal gangs.

DCI announced the breakthrough on Thursday, February 26, following an intensified operation to heighten security in the region.

“The ongoing security operation aimed at dismantling criminal gangs in the Coast Region has achieved yet another significant breakthrough with the arrest of three more notorious suspects,” DCI said.

The suspects, Bakari Idi Raisi (19) and Daudi Munye Mandu (18), were arrested in the Denyenye area, Ng’ombeni, by a team of security officers from Kwale county who were acting on intelligence.

According to DCI, Bakari and Munye are members of the infamous Panga Boys gang, which has been terrorising members of the public along the Dongo Kundu Bypass and Likoni-Ukunda Road.

“The suspects are currently in custody at Kwale Police Station,” the authorities stated.

Who is the Malindi serial killer?

Separately, a suspected serial killer, Joshua Ngala Hinzano, alias Goliath, was apprehended at Tangini Village, Madamani, during an operation in Kilifi county.

Ngala has reportedly been on the run after his involvement in three murder cases in Malindi.

The investigators confirmed that the three suspects are undergoing processing pending arraignment.

DCI affirmed that the multi-agency operation will continue in the coastal region to improve public safety and destroy all criminal organisations.

“The security operation continues across the region with the clear goal of making the area safer for all residents. We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities through the Fichua Kwa DCI toll-free number (0800 722 203) or via WhatsApp (0709 570 000),” the officers pleaded.

Days ago, DCI reported that safety was steadily being reinforced across the Coast following a coordinated crackdown by security agencies in Mombasa, Kilifi, and Kwale targeting violent criminal gangs that had unsettled communities.

This followed an operation that led to the arrest of six suspects, including Samuel Gitonga, Nicholas Mumba Chisiwa, Salim Mafuko Hamis, Haniff Iqbal Sharbaz, Sadik Hamis Mwanzembe, and Ali Musa Mwachimwandi.

Officers recovered assorted crude weapons and narcotic substances during the arrests, linking the suspects and their networks to both violent intimidation and drug-related activities.

Did DCI arrest robbery suspects in Mombasa?

Meanwhile, amid the intensified efforts, two other suspects, Collins Ochieng and Timothy Omondi Mgowe, were arrested for allegedly abducting and robbing a businessman in Kisauni.

During the robbery incident, the victim lost an unknown amount of money and items before being abandoned in the Mombasa Cement area.

Investigators recovered an AK-47 rifle, one magazine, four rounds of ammunition, and 10 assorted mobile phones from the suspects’ residence in the Bamburi Fisheries area.
