Basically, the boy was sent home on a 10-day suspension, and as is the procedure, the deputy principal asked the student for the parents’ number so that they could be notified of the happenings and the decision to suspend him. In this case, the boy preferred the deputy to call the mother, which he did.
How did Gitari and Gikunda’s son part?
“Given that the boy did not have fare home and the boy’s class teacher was not available, he offered the boy Ksh 300 as fare and released him to proceed home. This is about 10:00 am Saturday,” said Nyoro.
“The mother, having been notified, asked the teacher to tell the father instead, but shortly thereafter, the father called the deputy principal, furiously demanding to know why his son was suspended. He followed it up with a barrage of insults and threatening texts. This prompted the teacher to block his number,” he added.

The parent later that afternoon called the principal seeking redress and even shared a photo image of the suspension letter with the principal. The principal advised him to visit the school the following Monday, and he will be granted an audience.
On Sunday, while Gitari was having his car spruced up at a carwash in Nkubu, the parent in question appeared out of nowhere and confronted the teacher, demanding to know the whereabouts of his son, claiming that he had gone missing.
“After a brief exchange, the parent turned violent and attacked the teacher. People present at the scene intervened and restrained the assailant from further attacking the teacher,” said Nyoro.
“The teacher then proceeded to Nkubu police station, where he recorded a statement, got a P3 form and later proceeded to seek medical attention at a local facility. The matter is under investigation,” he added.
What did Gikunda’s apology say?
Initially, Gikunda claimed he was not aware of his son’s whereabouts; it has emerged that upon exiting the school compound, the boy proceeded to his sister’s place, and the sister had notified the parents as well.
In a video shared on the CiaMeru Facebook page, Gikunda (Sandi), who works as a driver in the office of the Meru senator, said that his family is very different from that of the politician.
“I want to apologise to him, the community and the Nkubu High School administration,” said Gikunda.
Gikunda is now supposed to replace the stolen mattress with 12 others and three crates of bread.
