Ida kept a low profile after her husband, Raila Odinga’s death, and stayed at her countryside home for quite a while, welcoming visitors.
She eventually returned to the city, with President William Ruto eventually offering her a job.
The National Assembly’s Committee on Defence, Intelligence, and Foreign Relations recently endorsed Ida’s nomination as Kenya’s permanent representative to the United Nations Environment Programme.

Following her vetting session on March 20, the committee, led by Belgut MP Nelson Koech, submitted its report for parliamentary debate.
If approved by the National Assembly, her nomination will proceed to Ruto for formal appointment.

As she waits for the approval, footage has shown her speaking to Calvince Okoth, better known as Gaucho.
There was a banner in the background of the Ida Odinga Trust, indicating that they were in her office.
The office was luxuriously designed and furnished. It featured shuttered curtains, a huge conference-style table and comfortable leather seats.
Gaucho donned a grey polo shirt while wearing a flowered dress.
They spoke in Dholuo, with Ida responding to something Gaucho said.
“2,500…” she said before noticing that someone was filming.
She then turned to the camera person and cautioned them.
“Don’t take my pictures without my permission,” she said.
The camera person instantly obeyed her instructions and panned the camera downwards.
Many Kenyans on social media agreed with Ida’s actions, saying it was an infringement of her privacy, despite the fact that she is a public figure.
