Eyewitnesses have recounted the chilling moment that a helicopter crashed on the evening of Saturday, February 28, killing MP Johanna Ng’eno and five other people who were on board.

Nandi County police commander Samuel Mukuusi confirmed the chopper crash, which happened just hours after the MP had posted a video aboard the ill-fated helicopter.

Speaking to Citizen TV, eyewitnesses are now narrating the chilling scenes they witnessed when the chopper came down, with one of them revealing that it had initially made an emergency landing.

A local revealed that the weather was foggy.

“We heard the helicopter, and it was about to make an emergency landing. It was hovering, looking for a place to land, and it did. Then I saw as if one of the passengers was asking the pilot to proceed with the journey. When it took off, it went down two minutes later,” he said.

Another man revealed that the chopper crashed after hitting trees, and the bodies of those on board were scattered all around the crash site.

Photos from the crash site have also been trending online, showing a huge fire and smoke. Reports indicate that the chopper crashed about 300 metres from where it had made an emergency landing.

Since the news of the helicopter, many have taken to social media to mourn the MP and the other victims, including President William Ruto.

The head of state eulogised the MP as his friend, a vocal and fearless leader.

Man narrates his last moments with MP Ng’eno

In other news, an Eldoret man is now narrating his last moments with MP Ng’eno, even revealing he joined him on the chopper for a trip from Eldoret to Endebess on the morning of Saturday, February 28.

Speaking in a video shared on Facebook, a young man identified as Engineer Kipchirchir Mosonik, who was a close friend of the late lawmaker, narrated that he was one of those who accompanied Ng’eno on Saturday, and had even boarded the ill-fated chopper.

“We were heading to Endebess in Mt Elgon to attend a musician’s event. The MP asked me to accompany him, and I was picked up at an airstrip in Eldoret,” he said.
