The devastating tragedy occurred in Mosop Constituency, Nandi county, claiming the lives of Emurua Dikir MP Johanna Ng’eno, the pilot, and four others, including members of his team.
While residents flocked to the scene, confused and saddened by the crash, one brave young woman stood out.
Jacobeth Jeptoo, who recently completed her nursing studies at Kendu Adventist School of Medical Sciences, swiftly put on her gloves and put her training into action. She offered medical assistance to the victims, doing all she could to save lives.
Her efforts were recognised by many, including the Nursing Council of Kenya and Nandi County Senator Samson Kiprotich Cherargei.
Who cleared Jacobeth Jeptoo’s school fees?
Cherargei praised the young woman for her compassion during such a tragic moment, noting that she stepped in to help those in need without hesitation.
In recognition of her bravery, the senator announced in a Facebook post that he had cleared her school fees.
“I have just had a phone conversation with our heroine, Ms Jeptoo Jacobeth, following her rescue efforts at the ill-fated helicopter crash that claimed the lives of MP Johanna Ng’eno and five others,” read part of his post.
Cherargei revealed that Jeptoo completed her community health nursing course in February 2026 and was awaiting the Kenya Nursing Council qualifying exams scheduled for May 2026.
In addition to clearing her fee arrears, the senator also paid for her qualifying exam fees, enabling her to complete her certification and register as a practising nurse.
“We shall walk this journey with her until she secures placement and continues serving humanity in honour of our departed brothers. To the Chepkiep community in Mosop Constituency, thank you for the solidarity you showed during the tragic accident on Saturday,” he stated.

Who died in Nandi chopper crash?

The victims include Emurua Dikir MP Johanna Ng’eno, his photographer Nick Kosgei, Amos Rotich, a Kenya Forest Service officer, Captain George Were, the pilot, and a teacher identified as Carlos Keter.
The helicopter crashed and burst into flames when the pilot was reportedly attempting an emergency landing amid the bad weather.
