In an exclusive interview with TUKO.co.ke in Kitale town, Trans Nzoia County, on Thursday, March 19, Daniel Wafula, one of the family members, said Ruto should tell them what Wamalwa owes him so that they can contribute instead of constantly insulting him.
How Eugene Wamalwa has suffered under Ruto
Wafula, who is also the Personal Assistant to Eugene Wamalwa, added that Ruto should withdraw his derogatory remarks and apologise to Wamalwa, his family, and the larger Baengele clan.
“We, the family members of Eugene Wamalwa, are with utmost respect asking President Ruto to leave our son alone. Eugene Wamalwa has always been a victim of William Ruto’s insults. Even where Eugene has said nothing against Ruto, you’ll find Ruto insulting him,” Wafula stated.
Wafula further enumerated instances where the Head of State has used unprintable words against the former Defence Cabinet Secretary.
“Eugene Wamalwa has suffered at the hands of Ruto. Even when Ruto was DP, there was a time he wanted to slap Wamalwa. In 2013, Ruto said, ‘nimetoa Wamalwa kwa mtaro nikampea kazi ya waziri.’ In 2016, unprovoked, Ruto insulted Wamalwa, calling him ‘Eunice Wamalwa’,” Wafula said, while recalling how Ruto demeaned their kin by comparing him with a woman in 2021 when Wamalwa went public that Ruto was about to slap him.
Later in 2022, before the 8 August general elections, Ruto was again on Wamalwa’s case, where he accused him of being too mouthy.
Is Eugene Wamalwa married?
He told our brother, “huyu mtu apunguze mdomo, ako na mdomo mrefu kutoka hapa mpaka South Africa (this one should tame his tongue, he has a big mouth that extends all the way to South Africa).

Wafula authoritatively downplayed Ruto’s assertion that Wamalwa does not have a wife.
“My brother married in 1997 at a very big wedding presided over by the retired Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale, Anthony Crowley. Therefore, saying he hires a wife is null and void, and he should stop meddling with the private affairs of other leaders,” Wafula warned.
He called on Western region leaders and the electorate to condemn Ruto’s remarks in the strongest terms possible.
“Our leaders and people should not celebrate when their respected leader is being insulted. We need to speak in one voice and demand respect from Ruto,” he appealed.

Eugene Wamalwa faults William Ruto for insulting him, says president can’t manage his anger
Eugene responded by criticising the president’s temperament, saying Ruto struggles with anger management and often loses control when frustrated.
He insisted he had never insulted the president to justify such attacks, recalling past occasions when Ruto allegedly tried to physically confront him and former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.
The DAP-K leader labelled the president’s remarks as unpresidential, emphasising that respect should come before criticism and accusing Ruto of repeatedly letting anger dictate his actions.
