Several Nairobi residents and businesses are facing a second day of water supply disruption after a major burst occurred in the early hours of Friday.

The Nairobi Water Company, in a public notice on Saturday, March 21, confirmed a burst pipe on the major Kabete–Kilimani transmission pipeline, disrupting water supply to almost 10 estates and their environs.
The incident took place at approximately 1:00 am on Friday, March 20, 2026, prompting an immediate response from technical teams.
Which Nairobi estates have water shortage?
In the customer advisory, the utility further assured customers that repairs were ongoing, with crews currently working to replace the damaged section of the critical transmission line.
Areas affected include Kileleshwa, Kilimani, State House, Ngumo, KEMRI, Highrise, Nairobi West, Upper Hill, Madaraka and environs.
“This is to inform you of a temporary water supply interruption in your area due to a burst pipe on the major Kabete–Kilimani transmission pipeline which occurred last night Friday, March 20, 2026 at 1:00 am. Our technical teams responded immediately and repairs are ongoing to replace the damaged section, conduct pressure testing, and safely restore the system,” the utility company stated.
The company said that normal supply is now expected to resume by 6:00 pm on Sunday, March 22, 2026, emphasising that the extended timeline is necessary to maintain safety standards on the critical infrastructure.
“Water supply is anticipated to be fully restored by Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 6:00 pm. This timeline allows for thorough repairs on this critical transmission line while prioritizing safety and infrastructure integrity,”
The residents have been urged to use stored water sparingly and efficiently. Water bowser services are also available for use.

The city county has been experiencing flooding as a result of the ongoing heavy rains that have damaged critical water supply infrastructure.
Rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country.
The weatherman warned that isolated heavy rainfall events are likely to occur in some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Rift Valley, the Southeastern Lowlands, and the Coast.

Which areas in Nairobi county will be demolished?
Governor Johnson Sakaja has since ordered the demolition of all illegal structures that often block the drainage system.
The Implementation Committee on the Cooperation Agreement between the county and the national government earmarked several areas for demolition, including Kirichwa in Kilimani, parts of Westlands, sections of the central business district, and downstream zones along the Nairobi River.
At least 23 people died during the March 6 downpours.
