Kenya Met Issues 7-Day Weather Forecast, Warns of Continued Rainfall in Several Counties

Nairobi – The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued its weekly weather forecast, warning of rainfall in certain areas.

In a notice, Kenya Met predicted the weather conditions that will be experienced from Tuesday, March 24, to Monday, March 30.

Which counties will receive rainfall this week?

According to the forecast, the ongoing rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of the country with its intensity expected to reduce as the week progresses.

“Weekly Weather Forecast, March 24-30, 2026. Rainfall is expected to continue over several parts of the country, though amounts are likely to reduce as the week progresses,” Kenya Met predicted.

Counties in the Highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, which include Nandi, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Busia, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, West Pokot, Kisii, Nyamira, Kericho, Bomet, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, and Narok, are expected to continue receiving rainfall.

Other counties to receive rains during the week are Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang’a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi.

In terms of temperature outlook, daytime temperatures above 30°C are expected in the Coast, Southeastern Lowlands, and Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya.

The weatherman projected that cool nights (<10°C) are likely in parts of the Central Highlands and areas near Mt Kilimanjaro.

What were the weather conditions between March 16 and 22?

In its review for March 16 to 22, the Kenya Meteorological Department said rainfall was recorded in most parts of the country, with the highest amounts in the Southeastern Lowlands.

Kitaingo Rainfall Station (Makueni County) recorded the highest 7-day total: 273.1 mm and the same station also recorded the highest 24-hour rainfall: 142.3 mm on 22nd March.

During the period, daytime temperatures decreased across most parts of the country, with a few increases on the coast and in northeastern Kenya. Nighttime (minimum) temperatures also decreased in most areas.

Mandera Meteorological Station recorded the highest daily maximum temperature: 39.5°C (March 17). Nyahururu Meteorological Station recorded the lowest daily minimum temperature: 6.8°C (March 16).

Which estates have been ordered to evacuate?

In other news, the Water Resources Authority (WRA) issued an urgent warning to residents living downstream of the Nairobi Dam of an imminent flood risk.

Citing rising water levels and continued heavy rainfall, WRA Nairobi sub-regional coordinator Noel Ndeti warned that the dam’s earthen barrier in Kibera, along the Ngong River, is at risk of breaching.

The WRA urged downstream residents and businesses to be vigilant and relocate to safer areas.

Areas listed under the evacuation advisory include Kibera, Nyayo Highrise, Dam Estate, Lang’ata, Nairobi West and Madaraka.
