The incident sparked fury among Kenyans who demanded accountability over the incident.

Speaking exclusively with TUKO.co.ke, Sammy Ondimu weighed in on the matter and called out Kenyans who were justifying the attack based on social media speculation.

“Even if the suspect schooled Clare, it is not right of him to attack her. The men outside are celebrating, but we do not advocate for that. No one can be happy to see their sister go through what Clare is experiencing, even if she were paid for school fees or bought a car. Humanity should come first before anything else,” he said.

Ondimu noted that the country has witnessed a series of violent incidents and urged Kenyans to always ensure they reconcile with those they wrong each day before sleeping.

What advice did Ondimu give to police officers?

He also urged police officers to go for conselling due to increasing cases of depression from love affairs.

“Nothing justifies assault, whether school fees or dowry. That girl is someone’s child and deserves to live. A lot of people spend money on their loved ones and still end up separating. If arrested and found guilty, you will stay behind bars. People should go for counseling because of the increasing cases of depression. A lot of offices are widely open, including chaplaincy. To my fellow officers, do not use that gun to kill someone because you will end up lacking peace or be sentenced to jail,” he advised.

Ondimu urged married couples to walk out of their marriages before their conflicts escalate to deaths or assaults, noting that it ‘would not be the end of life.’

“If it doesn’t work, walk out. Just run. It is also an option. Go back to your people and seek advice,” he stated.

He criticised the implicated families for their silence, asserting that clarifying the incident would help expedite justice for the assaulted woman.
