A wave of grief has swept through the community as news of the 12-year-old girl’s demise was shared by philanthropist Kiruga Thuku.
When did Claire travel to India?
What began as a journey of hope for life-saving treatment has ended in profound loss, leaving her parents, siblings, grandparents, and extended family devastated.
In January this year, Claire and her mother travelled to New Delhi, India, where she was set to undergo advanced medical procedures aimed at saving her remaining leg and addressing cancer that had also spread to her lungs.
The treatment was supported through assistance coordinated at the highest levels of government, including facilitation for travel and medical care.
At the time of departure on January 19, the family believed they were heading toward a breakthrough after a long and painful struggle.
Why Claire’s treatment became complicated
Claire had already endured immense suffering, including the amputation of one leg due to the aggressive disease, yet she continued to fight with remarkable courage.
Two weeks into their stay in India, complications arose when the young girl’s body reacted negatively to treatment.
“Blessed’s young body developed toxicity towards chemotherapy treatment after only two sessions. That meant this line of treatment was completely ruled out henceforth,” Thuku shared.
Her condition was then complicated further when her breathing difficulties worsened, and she began to rely on oxygen support. Despite the efforts of medical teams in India, her health continued to decline.

Blessed Claire’s final days on earth
In the final weeks, she was admitted to intensive care, where she remained under close monitoring as doctors worked tirelessly to stabilise her condition.
Unfortunately, her condition proved too fragile to recover. Those close to her recall a brave child who continued to show strength even in her most difficult moments.
“Two days ago, in our routine discussions with the girl and her mum, she could only manage to wave at me,” Thuku recalled the emotional gesture that now remains etched in his memory.
Her death has left a deep void in her family, who remember her as a bright, promising child whose life was cut tragically short.
Messages of condolence continue to pour in for the grieving household as they come to terms with the loss of a daughter they fought so hard to save.
As her family mourns, they are left holding onto memories of a brave young girl whose journey inspired hope, unity, and compassion before ultimately succumbing to a relentless illness that no child should have to endure.
Isabel Veloso dies of cancer
In January, cancer also claimed the life of popular social media influencer Isabel Veloso, who passed away at 19 after battling lymphoma for years.
She had documented her cancer journey on Instagram, sharing updates and moments with her 4 million followers.
Veloso’s death came months after she wrote an emotional letter to her one-year-old son when she was taken in for a bone marrow transplant, promising to return.
