A Nairobi court has granted bond to a man accused of a violent robbery in Westlands, even as the prosecution outlined details of the alleged attack involving threats and theft of valuable property.

The accused, Elias Wanyonyi Wekesa, appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Paul Mutahi where he faced charges of robbery with violence contrary to Section 296(2) of the Penal Code.
How Elias Wanyonyi robbed Jimmy Gait
According to court documents seen by Tuko.co.ke, on February 22, at Paradise Lost in Westlands, Nairobi County, the accused, jointly with another person not before court, allegedly robbed James Ngitha Ngigi popularly know as Jimmy Gait of his mobile phone valued at KSh 100,000.

The incident involved the use of threats and actual violence before and after the robbery.
The prosecution told the court that the accused was armed with dangerous weapons during the incident, raising the gravity of the offence.
Why court freed Elias Wanyonyi
The suspect was arrested on March 13, and later presented in court on March 26, where he denied the charges.
During the proceedings, the court considered his application for bail and granted the accused a bond of KSh 500,000 with an alternative cash bail of KSh 200,000.
The court also directed that the case be mentioned on April 7, for pre-trial.
The prosecution indicated that it will rely on key witnesses, including the complainant and several police officers attached to DCI Gigiri, as the case proceeds to hearing.
How Jimmy Gait unsettled his fanbase
It was on February 22 when Jimmy Gait unsettled his fans after revealing he was assaulted by thugs in Runda, Nairobi.
The Tenda Wema star posted videos online showing the aftermath, highlighting the injuries he endured.
In the footage shared on February 22, Jimmy sat before the camera, his shirt soaked in blood and his face etched with pain.
“I was attacked by thugs and they have hurt me so badly. You can see that I am covered in blood,” he said. He explained that his fingers and hands were injured during the ordeal.
Despite the harrowing experience, the gospel singer expressed deep gratitude for surviving what he described as a brush with death.
“It is only by God’s grace that I have survived. Please pray for me. Thank God that I am alive. I just saw death with my own eyes,” he added.
His attackers reportedly fled with his belongings.
Jimmy was rushed to St Teresa Hospital Thindigua for treatment after the incident. Police have yet to release an official statement regarding the attack.
The video quickly sparked reactions online, with fans flooding his comment section with messages of support and encouragement.
