Kakamega, Kenya: The mother of fallen Kakamega Polytechnic Principal Carolyne Khamete has shared that she was allegedly getting threatening calls from suppliers before her untimely death.

Khamete had been missing for over a week, and then her family and friends received the devastating news that she had been found dead on the shores of Lake Victoria.

In his message of condolence on March 27, 2026, Kakamega governor Fernandez Barasa said that the middle-aged woman joined the county in 2015 and she was a principal at Matioli County Polytechnic before moving on to Kakamega County Polytechnic.

“Throughout her career at the County Government of Kakamega, she demonstrated great diligence, commitment and passion in promoting technical education,” he said.

“Khamete has been instrumental in mentoring trainees who have been sponsored by the county in collaboration with our development partners, some of whom had dropped out of our education system. To this group, she demonstrated remarkable understanding and passion, thereby transforming their lives,” he added.

Who was allegedly threatening Khamete?

The grieving mother also said that her daughter confided in her that some people threatened her life because of the institution.

“Mama, when I look around I am worried there are people who keep calling, and they are suppliers; they supplied some items to the school, but the county Government of Kakamega is yet to pay them,” she said.

She went to work, and her husband even said that after he dropped her off, he had to go back and take her some of the documents she had forgotten at home.

“While there, she got a call, and they were asking her for some documents. On Wednesday, she was taken to college, and shortly afterwards, she said that she was going to see the director, and she never picked up her call again. “The family is wondering why she was found in Kisumu. We have many questions as a family and wondering what happened? We are in great pain,” she added.

In another story, the late Madam Ruth Rurie was not just a beloved teacher at Kiamutuira Secondary School in Kirinyaga county, she was loved by the surrounding community as well.

According to Mwaniki MCA Mtarajiwa Mukure, a local businessman and politician, the middle-aged woman had an accident and broke her leg.

Madam Ruire later went to live with her daughter to get extra care because of her broken leg, and she was said to be doing well, but then she died.
