Nairobi – The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued its 24-hour cumulative rainfall forecast for various parts of the country.

Kenya Met said various parts of the country will experience sunny intervals between 9 pm on Monday, April 6, and 9 pm on Tuesday, April 7.
The daily weather outlook predicts rainfall in a few locations across three regions, including the highlands west of the Rift Valley.

“Sunny intervals are expected across most parts of the country. However, rainfall is expected over few areas of the Highlands West and East of the Rift Valley and in parts of the North-Eastern region. Strong southeasterly winds of above 25 knots (12.5m/s) expected over parts of Turkana and Marsabit counties,” the weatherman said.

The highlands west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and Rift Valley
Counties in these regions are Bungoma, Busia, Vihiga, Kakamega, Kisii, Nyamira, Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay, Kericho, Nandi, Bomet, Nakuru, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Trans-Nzoia, and Narok
According to the forecast, showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places tonight.
Kenya Met predicted rains over a few places, giving way to sunny intervals in the morning, before ushering in showers and thunderstorms over a few places in the afternoon.
Highlands east of the Rift Valley
In Nairobi, Kirinyaga, Embu, Meru, Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a, Tharaka Nithi, Laikipia, and Nyandarua, showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places tonight, especially in the high ground areas.
The weatherman projected sunny intervals in the morning and showers and thunderstorms expected over few places in the afternoon.
Northwestern
In Turkana and Samburu counties, the weatherman said partly cloudy conditions are expected tonight.
Rains are expected over a few places in northern Turkana, giving way to sunny intervals in the morning, and sunny intervals are expected in the afternoon.

Northeastern
Residents in the counties of Garissa, Mandera, Wajir, Isiolo and Marsabit will receive showers and thunderstorms over a few places tonight.
Kenya Met predicts sunny intervals with a chance of light morning rain in a few areas, followed by light showers and afternoon thunderstorms in some locations.
Strong southeasterly winds exceeding 25 knots (12.5m/s) are expected in parts of Marsabit County.
Southeastern lowlands
Kenyans residing in Makueni, Taita Taveta, Kajiado, Kitui and Machakos should expect showers and thunderstorms over a few places tonight.
Sunny intervals with a chance of light rains expected in the morning, followed by showers and thunderstorms over a few places in the afternoon.
Coast
In Tana River, Lamu, Kilifi, Mombasa and Kwale, residents should expect partly cloudy conditions tonight.
According to the weatherman, light showers are expected over a few places in the morning, followed by showers and thunderstorms over a few places in the afternoon.

Is Nairobi Dam at risk of bursting?
In other news, the Water Resources Authority (WRA) issued an urgent warning to residents living downstream of the Nairobi Dam of an imminent flood risk.
Citing rising water levels and continued heavy rainfall, WRA Nairobi sub-regional coordinator Noel Ndeti warned that the dam’s earthen barrier in Kibera, 5km southwest of the CBD along the Ngong River, is at risk of breaching. WRA urged downstream residents and businesses to remain vigilant and move to safer areas.
