Lance Corporal Tumelo Dube, a member of the Presidential Guard, died alongside his wife, Antonate Mashava, and their two young children: eight-year-old Itumele and one-year-old Lorisana.
How LC Tumelo Dube died
According to the Herald Online, the quartet died after their vehicle was involved in a fatal crash just 10 kilometres after Shangani.
The family had been travelling to Bulawayo when disaster struck. While three of the victims died at the scene, the two children were rushed to the hospital, where they passed on shortly after.
In the aftermath of the crash, unanswered questions linger, with family members raising concerns that the incident may have involved a hit-and-run.
This is after a fragment of a side mirror believed to belong to their vehicle was discovered about 100 metres from the scene.
Villagers living nearby were among the first to respond after hearing the violent impact.
Despite their efforts, three occupants had already lost their lives, while the youngest victims fought for survival in the hospital before succumbing to their injuries.
Who was LC Tumelo Dube?
A military funeral parade was held in honour of LC Dube at the State House Presidential Barracks in Bulawayo, a solemn tribute reflecting his years of national service in the army.
Fellow officers, family, and friends gathered to pay their final respects to a man remembered for his discipline and quiet dedication.
Chief mourner Lieutenant Colonel Tongai Hove described the 33-year-old as a loyal and committed soldier whose service left a lasting mark.
The deceased officer joined the army in March 2012 and underwent training at 42 Infantry Battalion in Masvingo before serving in several military units, including 22 Infantry Battalion.
Over the years, he rose through the ranks and was eventually assigned to the Presidential Guard, where he served in the VIP Close Security Unit as a driver at the time of his death.
His dedication earned him recognition, including the Independence Medal and the 10 Years’ Service Medal.

The early morning accident left a community in mourning, with authorities unsure whether speeding or driver fatigue caused the accident.
One of the passengers survived the crash and was rushed to a Grade B Hospital for first aid before being referred for further treatment, offering a fragile thread of hope amid the tragedy.
