A new development has emerged regarding the killing of a mobile money operator in the Soroti area.

On Saturday, April 11, the police announced the arrest of the four suspects linked to the murder of Kokunda Patricia, aged 36.
Who are the main suspects in Kokunda Patricia’s killing?
According to the police statement, the incident occurred at 4.40 am near the Goalman supermarket along Station Road.

“Police in East Kyoga Region have made significant progress in investigating an aggravated robbery and murder by shooting that claimed the life of Kokunda Patricia, a 36-year-old businesswoman and mobile money operator in Soroti City. The incident occurred on 3rd April 2026, at around 4:40 a.m. near Goalman Supermarket along Station Road, when unidentified assailants shot the victim and fled with her handbag containing cash and other valuables,” police said.
A swift response by the police led to a breakthrough in the investigations. Since the initial four suspects were arrested, the number has grown to eleven following sustained intelligence-led operations across Soroti, Amuria, Kalaki, and Abim Districts.
Those arrested include, Epeu Simon alias Iboda, suspected to have pulled the deceased out of her vehicle, and Emenyu David, alias Ogwang Sam, alias Olipong, believed to be the shooter.
Other suspects are Okello Emmanuel alias Imorning, Eyamu Rashid alias Odekuro, Elacu Alfred, Akello Hellen, Okello Alex, Ojele Jorem alias Jogo, Elwanu Julius, Onebo Felix, and Akello Salume (wife to the shooter).
Following the arrest, the police recovered KSh 367,000 of the KSh 978,000 stolen during the incident.
Police also recovered a rifle suspected to have been used in the shooting, a red numberless motorcycle, and a Tecno Canon phone belonging to the deceased
“So far, key exhibits have been recovered, including a rifle suspected to have been used in the shooting, ammunition, clothing worn during the operation, a red numberless motorcycle, and a Tecno Canon phone belonging to the deceased. The total cash recovered stands at UGX 10.5 million, out of an estimated UGX 28 million said to have been robbed,” the police said.
Investigations continue to trace the remaining suspects and establish the full network involved in this organised armed robbery, and the public is urged to remain vigilant and share any credible information with the nearest police station.

Did the CCTV capture the shooting incident?
Police have released the CCTV footage which captured the tragic incident that occurred at around 5:40 am on Good Friday.
The deceased had her home and boarded a taxi along Station Road, near Goal Man Supermarket, heading to Ocorimongin Cattle Market in the Katakwi district.
In the footage seen by TUKO.co.ke, the deceased was captured entering the PSV matatu as the suspects keenly watched her.
The main suspect entered the matatu moments after Patricia and pulled her out. He grabbed her bag and ran away.
As Kokunda tried to pursue him, an armed accomplice opened fire, fatally shooting her in the legs as people watched.
How M-Pesa agent was killed in Busia?
In related news, residents of Esikulu have expressed outrage after the murder of an M-Pesa attendant by suspected robbers on Tuesday, March 17.
The incident happened during President William Ruto’s visit to Busia county to launch development projects.
The shop owner, Isaac Bunyasi, reported that armed robbers stormed his shop around 1pm and fatally attacked his 25-year-old employee, only identified as Anne.
According to him, the suspects made away with KSh 800,000 in cash.
Bunyasi said he sent Ann money for a float to accommodate customers who were waiting to transact. Moments later, all the money he sent and the others she had received were stolen during the robbery incident.
