Police in Homa Bay are investigating the sudden death of a prison officer, just hours after he was informed of his impending transfer.

Constable Ronald Benard Ochieng, attached to Homa Bay GK Prison, was found dead in his house by his colleagues, who had visited him on Saturday evening, April 11, after he became unreachable on the phone.

Where was Benard Ochieng transferred to?

According to a report by KBC, the constable died on Friday night, April 10, hours after he was issued marching orders to report to Siaya GK Prison.

Homa Bay County Criminal Investigation Officer Peter Kimulwo confirmed that the deceased was not willing to take up the new posting.

He reportedly called his mother and expressed his frustration over the transfer before switching off the phone.

Before the transfer, Ochieng had been admitted and treated for severe pneumonia at the Homa Bay County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

His body was moved to the Homa Bay Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination as investigations into the incident continue.

Meanwhile, Ochieng had served the Kenya Prison Service for nearly 20 years before his demise.

Efforts to trace her whereabouts failed. However, DCI traced her phone and arrested her estranged boyfriend, who was reportedly seen in her company before she went missing.
